Journal 62 — Unity Line Up Audio and Video in Cutscene, Part 4
Objective: Clean up more of the extended cutscene with smooth transitions
In the example below from “The Great Fleece”, we are continuing to build the beginning cutscene. The previous part started smoothing out transitions as Darren dropped down the rope into the Auction House. Now we want to add to the transitions for a couple parts of the cutscene.
Rise To Reveal
In this part of the cutscene, Darren is crouched behind a display case, and the camera will pan to reveal the Auction House.

We can start by updating Timeline to add an Animation Track.

We can set the first keyframe by selecting record and adjusting the virtual camera position and rotation slightly.

Then we can move the Timeline marker to the end of the transition, move in Scene view to the final panned location, and select Ctrl+Shift+F to change the camera view.

Rise From Marble
The next transition shows a view opposite in the Auction House. The camera view should pan from near the floor and up in the room to provide an overview of the Auction House.

We can create a new Animation Track, and drag in the virtual camera.

We can start recording, and adjust the virtual camera position and rotation. Then we can move the Timeline marker to the end of the transition, and adjust the position and rotation again.

We can check the smoothness of the transition.

Organize Virtual Cameras in Timeline
One bonus cleanup item is to better organize the Timeline with groups.

From there, you can create new tracks, or drag existing tracks and collapse the view.

Thank you for your time!
The next article will go over more transitions and polishing of the extended cutscene.
